Horticulture Team

Welcome to the Horticulture page in the Department of Biology.

We provide a wide range of specialist services to staff in the Department of Biology and we are based in B/P/001. Our email address is biol-horticulture-group@york.ac.uk

We are located in Biology and walled garden near Heslington Hall and have a range of specialist glasshouse and controlled environment facilities available. Services we offer are as follows:

• Growing media and pot filling request service - to order complete the Compost Request Form
• Provision of plant material for research and teaching
• Maintenance of glasshouses and controlled environment facilities
• Advice on plant cultivation
• Advice on selection of equipment and materials
• Monitoring of environmental conditions in plant growth cabinets and rooms and the glasshouses
• Provision of environmental data
• GM induction for P Block access

We are often out of the office working round the Department/in the walled garden, but please try calling us on extension 8568. Please note if calling from an outside line you need to prefix with 01904 32(ext). Our team is made up of the following staff:

Anyone working in the horticultural facilities will need to undergo an induction. The induction will be in the form of a tour, with an overview of the local rules and procedures. The induction usually takes 30-40minutes. To arrange an induction for a new starter please contact the Horticulture Manager.
