Data Storage Information

Electronic data located on Department of Psychology storage infrastructure is backed up using the following methods:


  • Data Snapshots

Snapshots are taken at regular intervals each day.  This allows data to be recovered from several points during that current day. 

  • Tape Backups

Data is backed up to tape regularly.  Backups are retained for a period determined by University of York policy.


Electronic data located on Department of Psychology storage infrastructure is secured using the following methods: 


  • File / folder security

Electronic data is protected by a permission structure.  This ensures that only appropriate staff / students have access to required data.

  • Access of data from external sources

Data located on Department of Psychology storage infrastructure cannot be accessed from external sources without an encrypted connection to the University of York network.


Devices used to collect or access electronic data associated with Department of Psychology research are protected as follows:


  • Patching / Updating

Devices are updated to a current patch level

  • Antivirus

PCs and Apple computers run current antivrus software

  • Encryption

Computers and external devices used for storage are encrypted
