Event: Research Computing Showcase
What is it?
The Research Computing Showcase aims to bring together members of the University of York research community in an informal setting, allowing them to showcase computational research, share knowledge and experience, and enjoy the opportunity to network with colleagues from across the university faculties. There will be a particular focus on computational research that has made use of (or could make use of!) the university's main research computing facility, Viking.
The event will consist of the following:
- A series of short 'showcase' presentations, delivered by researchers from each of the university faculties. These will be accounts of research projects with computation at their core.
- A poster session with refreshments
The event is intended to cover a wide range of computational research, and we encourage anybody interested in delivering a talk or presenting a poster to get in touch via email to killian.murphy@york.ac.uk.
Why are we doing this?
Computation drives a lot of research. We think it is important to try and bring together researchers from different fields to showcase what they are doing, as there may be tools and techniques being used in some field that could greatly benefit work being carried out in another. Additionally, the university has invested heavily in research computing, and we are keen to understand how the facilities are being used, as well as how they might be better used in the future.
When and where?
The Research Computing Showcase is taking place at 14:00 on Friday 14 February 2020, in the BS/104 Meeting Room (the 'Tree House') - the location of this building is available on the University's campus map. There is a hearing loop installed in BS/104, and access via elevator is available. Please be aware that access to the Tree House is via an open-plan office/study space, in which there may be people working.
