Course description

Linux is an important operating system for both research and researchers wishing to access the high performance computing facilities. This two-part introduction is aimed at those who have never used a Linux system before and wish to gain enough knowledge to get going. The introduction will be via live demonstration and practical sessions.

Part 1:

  • Introducing the shell
  • File and Directories 
  • Creating Things 

 Part 2:

  • Pipes and Filters
  • Loops
  • Finding Things 
  • Shell Scripts

The course will use Linux laptops provided by IT Services. If you have your own Linux laptop you are welcome to bring this to use for the exercises if you prefer.
