The Varangian GPU cluster is currently in beta mode awaiting Alces (Viking service provider) to take over the facility. It is currently an interactive machine but will soon have a queuing system and a look and feel similar to Viking.
Accessing the facility
To access Varangian you will need to fill in this form. You should receive email confirmation within 24 hours that you have access.
Hardware
Varangian consists of:
- varfs01.york.ac.uk: Intel server with 6x8TB SSDs running Ceph to provide networked /scratch storage
- vargpu01.york.ac.uk: Asus ECS8000G4 with 8 x A40
- vargpu02.york.ac.uk: Asus ECS8000G4 with 8 x A40
- vargpu03.york.ac.uk: Asus ECS8000G4 with 8 x A40
- vargpu04.york.ac.uk: Asus ECS8000G4 with 5 x A40.
Each server contains
- 2x Intel(R) Xeon(R) Gold 6240R CPU @ 2.40GHz (total 96 cores)
- 512 GB
- 2TB on node storage via /tmp
Fileserver
- 48 TB scratch space. Not backed up.
Software
The machines use the module system and have Ubuntu 20.04 installed. For software requests please email itsupport@york.ac.uk.
