Cleaning equipment and maintaining the lab (SOP3)

After data collection is finished, remove the cap and blink electrodes carefully. Place the cap in a basin of warm water, taking care to keep the electrical connectors dry. Your participant may now wash their hair, either in a sink (if available) or using one of the two showers in the department (located in rooms A110 and C211). Provide shampoo and a towel for your participant. Hairdryers are also available.

Used towels should be placed in a used towel basket, and washed (using the washing machine in room C213) in batches of 5 or 6. Washing tablets are available in B114 for this purpose. It is the responsibility of all lab users to wash towels and hang them up to dry – nobody will do this for you.

Put the blunt syringe tip into the yellow sharps bucket. You can only use each tip once before it needs to be disposed of. Rinse out the syringe by filling it with water and emptying it several times.

Then, using the WaterPick, remove the gel from each electrode cup. Keep the tip of the WaterPick submerged at all times. Clean both the inside and outside of the cap. You can use a toothbrush if required. When the cap is clean, squeeze it gently to remove excess water, and leave it to dry on one of the model heads provided.
